The Davis Security Institute offers a Concealed Carry Weapons Course which meets or exceeds Florida standards for training those private citizens who wish to carry sidearms for self-defense. The course consists of training in Florida’s self-defense, firearms, use-of-force and arrest laws; as well as tactical training and live fire qualification.
The philosophy of the training is that an armed citizen must be prepared to survive both the physical attack and the subsequent legal attack.
Topics taught in the 4 hour course include:
- Applicable Florida laws
- Operation of the revolver and semiautomatic handgun
- Choosing a firearm for concealed carry
- Carrying and presenting the handgun
- Safety of weapons in public and in the home
- Tactical shooting, accurate shot placement
- Addressing multiple threats
The cost for the Concealed Weapon Course is $70. If two or more students schedule the class together, the cost is reduced to $65 each. Students are required to provide 50 rounds of ammunition. Handguns, hearing and eye protection can be rented from the range at nominal cost. You are encouraged to provide your own handgun, however use of a school firearm, targets and range fees are included in the cost of tuition. If you do provide your own handgun it will be thoroughly inspected by the instructor before being allowed on the range.
